The Operational Challenge
The client sells bespoke shooting-experience trips in Spain, combining venues with tiered accommodation, transfers and catering. Their existing website — built on another agency’s templated WordPress product — was letting the business down.
An audit found broken user journeys: accommodation and event tiles that looked like links but led nowhere, out-of-date events still listed months after they had passed, and navigation that made the range of trips hard to understand. Worse, the site presented every accommodation option as if it suited every trip, which was misleading — the venues and hotels are geographically paired, and the site hid that. For a business whose website exists to generate enquiries, these were real problems.
Systems Blueprint
The obvious brief was “make the website look better.” The more useful question was how the product actually works — and the answer shaped the whole rebuild.
Because the two shooting venues are around 60km apart and the accommodation clusters near one of them, the trips have a natural structure the old site ignored. The blueprint modelled that reality explicitly: venues, accommodation, experiences and events as structured content, with the real venue-to-accommodation pairings built into how trips are presented. Getting that model right meant the site could describe the trips honestly and clearly, rather than as an undifferentiated list.
The Built Solution
A complete rebuild on a modern static stack — Astro with TypeScript and Tailwind — chosen for speed, security and low running costs, with no WordPress maintenance overhead.
- Structured content — venues, accommodation, experiences, testimonials and events modelled as content collections, so the site stays accurate and is easy for the business to keep current.
- Clear trip presentation — the venue-and-accommodation pairing made explicit, so visitors understand what each trip involves.
- Built to be found and used — strong performance, SEO and accessibility baked in, with automated accessibility testing as part of the build.
- Lead-focused — an enquiry-based journey designed to turn interest into qualified leads, not a checkout the business didn’t need.
Business Outcome
The business moved from a slow, templated site with dead links and stale content to a fast, accessible and search-friendly one that represents the trips accurately and is built to convert interest into enquiries. Just as importantly, thinking through how the trips actually work — rather than only restyling the pages — turned a website refresh into a clearer, more honest presentation of the product itself.
